Why is Dental Care Important?

Just like humans, our pets are susceptible to dental issues like gum disease, tartar build up, and tooth decay. By practicing regular dental care for your pets, you can prevent these problems from occurring or worsening. Good pet dental health can also mean an improvement in your pet’s overall health, a reduced risk of tooth loss, fresher breath, and a longer lifespan for your furry friend!

Signs of Dental Issues

Recognizing signs of dental disease, rather than dental issues. The following can all be indicators your pet has dental problems:

  • Bad Breath
  • Inflamed Gums
  • Visible Tartar Build Up
  • Loose or Missing Teeth
  • Drooling or Excessive Salivation
  • Swelling in Mouth
  • Swelling Below Eye
  • Pawing at Mouth
  • Difficulty Eating or Loss of Appetite
  • Pain Vocalization or Whimpering

Dental Services at Mosaic Animal Health Center

An oral exam at Mosaic includes a check of your pet’s teeth and gums. We’ll look for signs of dental problems or abnormalities and use our findings to create a personalized dental plan for your pet’s needs.

Depending on the results of the oral exam, we may recommend a dental cleaning with hand and ultrasonic scaling, ultrasonic polishing and fluoride application to remove plaque and tartar, and dental x-rays to check for disease under the gum line.

Scheduling your own dental appointment? Don’t forget to make one for your pet too.

Regular dental appointments keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy. By taking care of their teeth now, they can avoid more serious health problems later in life.

During a typical dental care exam, we look for signs of dental problems or abnormalities and use our findings to create a personalized dental plan for your pet’s needs. We might also recommend a professional dental cleaning under anesthesia to remove plaque and take dental X-rays to investigate further under the gumline.

After the cleaning, we’ll give you extra tips to care for your pet’s oral hygiene. This may include brushing your pet’s teeth daily or providing appropriate dental chews, supplements, treats, or water additives. This combination of regular at-home care and professional veterinary dental cleaning will go a long way in keeping your pet’s teeth bright and healthy.
